Sudden fear can appear without warning. A person may be sitting calmly when intense fear suddenly rises. Thoughts like “Something bad will happen” or “Am I going to die?” may occur. Breathing may feel impossible. Some people cannot move, speak, or even make a sound. Closing the eyes can increase fear. In some cases, this state escalates into a full panic attack.

What Is Amygdala Fear?

Amygdala fear occurs due to amygdala overactivation. The amygdala is the brain’s threat detection centre. When it becomes overactive, the thinking brain shuts down. At this stage:

Activate large muscles. Press the feet firmly into the ground with maximum force. Clench the fists strongly. Continue Steps 1 and 2 while activating the muscles. This breaks the freeze response.

When fear reduces slightly, both eyes can be closed. Fear may rise briefly. If it becomes intolerable, open the eyes and repeat all three steps.

Continue until fear settles.

Is This a Permanent Sudden Fear Solution?

For nearly 80% of people, fear reduces significantly using FOP. However, this is not a permanent solution. The fear often originates from non-conscious experiences, such as:

  • Childhood trauma

  • Fear experienced before loss of consciousness

  • Past drug use

  • Medical or surgical events
